Festivities are underway this week as part of ‘Celebrating Christmas in Limerick – The City of Fashion 2015’.
The celebration will feature a mix of free style events and beauty demonstrations across Limerick City.
Limerick stylist Celia Holman Lee encouraged the city’s fashion retailers to decorate their windows in the hopes of winning ‘Limerick’s Most Festive Window Display’.
Ms Holman Lee said: “The concept for this contest came from my love of coming into town as a child and looking at the beautiful Christmas windows.
“When devising ‘Celebrating Christmas in Limerick – the City of Fashion’, I thought it would make a fabulous addition to the programme of events.”
Participating retailers gathered in the Cornstore, Thomas Street for the announcement of the winner yesterday afternoon.
Tippe Canoe, Thomas Street was awarded the prize for ‘Most Festive Window Display’.
No: 15 Le Maison de Curio, Anne Street were named winners of the ‘Most Creative Window Display’.
The winning shops were presented with handcrafted pieces by ceramicist Clare Jordan by Ms Holman Lee and the Economic Development Officer with Limerick City and County Council, Mary Hayes.
The panel of adjudicators included Ms Holman Lee, Head of Fashion at Limerick School of Art and Design Anne Melin, Olivia O’Sullivan of The Limerick Post, Aine Fitzgerald of The Limerick Leader and Fergal Deegan of Limerick’s Live 95FM.
“I am overwhelmed with the response from retailers in the city. As it is the first year of the event, we have had to keep it limited in terms of criteria such as ladieswear, accessories and menswear. However, I hope expand it to other categories going forward,” said Ms Holman Lee.
Celebrations commenced on Monday with the ‘Design & Style @ Limerick Craft Hub’ event, showcasing unique and local Irish design and continued into the evening with a late opening of the Beauty Hall at Brown Thomas.
Today, Arthur’s Quay Shopping centre hosted the ‘Wondering What To Wear Over The Festive Season’ event which featured style tips from the experts and a fashion show.
On Thursday and Friday ‘The Fashion Road Trail’ will showcase the latest trends Limerick’s retailers have to offer during a series of in-store events.
‘Celebrating Christmas in Limerick – The City of Fashion 2015’ kicks off a wide range of programmes taking place across Limerick this Christmas such as : ‘Limerick on Ice’ at Arthur’s Quay Park, ‘Enchanted by Franc, a Medieval Christmas Experience’ at King John’s Castle, the Christmas Racing Festival at Limerick Racecourse and festive food events such as the annual Christmas Markets.
