‘Transpositions’ is a photography exhibition taking place in The People’s Museum of Limerick from September 19 to October 18. The exhibition showcases the work of Elaine Tucker and Óscar Mascareñas, focusing on Ballycuggaran, Killaloe, County Clare.

Elaine’s passion for photography began in her twenties while she was travelling, she’s since taken many courses in her free time to hone her skill in the hobby as she finds it “creative and meditative.” Oscar’s love for art stretches into music as well as photography. For the couple, snapping pictures became something they loved to do together.

Oscar explained that the couple would often share in the same ritual: “We would pack our sandwiches in the morning and travel to places every weekend.” It was on one of these excursions that the two artists first visited Killaloe. Elaine describes how she “fell in love with the beaches and the wildlife.” Oscar’s main attraction to the area was its woodland and the couple found themselves returning frequently.

Oscar went on to explain that for the couple, photography isn’t a competition. “We are one unit, and do this together, we have a love for nature.” This can be seen throughout their work.

When presented with the opportunity to exhibit their work in the People’s Museum, their love for Ballycuggaran led them to focus their attention on the woodland and wildlife of the area. While the two photographers capture the landscape and wildlife in different styles, they feel they are unified in this exhibition that celebrates the connection of all living things.

Elaine and Oscar have hopes for more exhibitions in the future but no solid plans just yet. The couple hope to have ‘Transpositions’ showcased in other museums around the country.
