This local Limerick food haven is perfect for your weekend itinerary

Wickham Way is located at the junction of Thomas Street and Wickham Street, not too far from the Milk Market. There are some small shops inside of what looks like a roofed alleyway: a flower shop, a piercing studio, a record store and a gift shop

Wickham Way´s food market opens from Thursday to Sunday. Vendors have to apply for a spot, so there is always a changing selection of food stalls.

On Saturday, additional markets will be open from 10 am to 3 pm. Stalls selling crafts, art and more. Some of them are normally hidden behind the colourful roasters of Wickham Way, some just come in just for the day.

The market also functions as a multipurpose venue. For example, on August 24 of this year, “Milsean” took place, a queer-based event.

Wickham Way – a hidden gem

“It is an amazing space as well as one of the very few alternative spaces”, states the owner of Downbeatrecords Limerick, a shop that opened on August 2.  “It is more of an alternative crowd.” He describes Wickham Way as the ideal place for “hanging around and doing nothing.”

He just returned to Limerick in March after living in the UK for 15 years. He was a bit unsure about his decision to return to his hometown if he would find people he could connect with. “But I opened the store and they all came through the door,” he explains.

Frankie also mentions that there are also efforts to extend the opening days of some shops. However, for now, the sweet spot to visit Wickham Way according to him is Saturday: with lively music playing from his record store and the smell of fresh coffee.

This hidden gem is filled with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
