Limerick School for Art and Design (LSAD) students will be hosting a Christmas pop-up art exhibition in the Debenham venue from December 3- 23 to showcase their work.
Lidija Savickaite, the chairperson of the LSAD exhibition society, describes it as an “opportunity for students to present their work and show what we do in LSAD.”
Savickaite is also the organiser of the event, alongside partner, Cormac Dillon.
With over 120 artists participating, the gallery will feature works in fashion, ceramics, prints, photographs, textiles and paintings.
The exhibition is a continuation of the previous two years, which was held in the Crescent shopping centre, however, this year’s event will be showcased on the first floor of the Debenhams building on O’Connell Street. “I am so grateful to be given this chance to transform this derelict space to a creative hub” says Savickaite. “It’s right in the city centre, I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better location” she adds.
Over the course of the 20-day showcase, the event will also give other societies a chance to practice their skills, with the photography society taking promotional pictures and the DJ society performing at the event.
The Christmas Showcase 2024 aims to offer a cultural experience within the city centre, to draw in both locals and visitors, while also providing a platform for upcoming artists from LSAD, including students, staff and alumni.
