The organisers are going all out to mark two decades of the beloved festival.
RiverFest is back from May 3-6 and is marking its 20th anniversary with a host of events for young and old this May bank holiday. Festivalgoers can expect to see a similar spectacle as the Giant Granny, who came to Limerick 10 years ago.
This year on a Friday evening a giant winged pegasus will leap straight out of Greek Mythology to strut its stuff along the banks of the River Shannon and through the city in a carnival-style parade.
Attendees can also expect to see familiar amenities with the RiverFest village and Panoramic wheel returning. There will be bingo at Fidget Feet, Smoky delights can be found at the national all-Ireland BBQ competition and style galore at the fashion fest. For people willing to brave the water they’ll be kayaking and dragon boats.
Arthurs quay will also offer a thrilling zipline experience. Style icon Celia Holman-Lee will showcase Limerick’s talented designers and view a selection of work from the final-year students of the Limerick School of Art and Design
The international Rugby experience will offer an immersive treasure hunt through the museum for Rugby fans young and old.
Closing out the festival is beautiful firework display.
Speaking at a launch event at the Curragower Bar and Restaurant, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said: “We’re thrilled to mark this milestone anniversary of Riverfest Limerick with an incredible array of activities and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
“I’m really excited to watch the spectacle of Pegasé on Friday evening. This is sure to cement Limerick’s reputation as the place to be for the May Bank Holiday Weekend. I know the people of Limerick will join me in embracing the spirit of community and camaraderie that this festival thrives upon as we extend a warm Limerick welcome to all who join us from near and far.”
Riverfest brings a beautiful atmosphere to the city of Limerick with tons of activities for everyone in the family.
