ULMTS´s Night of Captivating Singing, Dancing and Acting
The University of Limerick’s Musical Theatre Society (ULMTS) impressed the audience with their autumn semester performance titled ‘Tripple Threat’ in the Jonathan Swift Theatre, last Thursday, November 21.
The performance was made up of three different mini-musicals. Each thirty-minute show featured songs from other popular musicals including ‘Teen Beach Movie’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Anastasia’ and wowed the audience.
This Year’s Show Varied from the Usual Autumn Semester Performance
The Triple Threat concept differs from the Society´s typical autumn semester production. Traditionally a cabaret is performed. Milly Mason, the vice chairperson of the ULMTS, has expressed the committee’s desire to do something “a little bit different” this year.
Tickets for the show sold out in less than 24 hours, with half being sold within the hour.
The cast had been rehearsing for the show since the beginning of October. Mason praises the team stating that she is “so proud of everyone involved.” She adds: “Everyone has worked so hard from committee to cast to crew.”
ULTMS – One of the University’s Most Popular Societies
The ULMTS celebrated their fifth anniversary earlier this month. Throughout their time they have held various social nights, competed in intervarsities and performed full-scale musicals including ‘Carrie’ and ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’. The ULMTS won the best society in UL in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, it was nominated for the best society in Ireland 2022.
Recently it was announced that the society has chosen their Spring Semester full-scale musical. They will be producing ‘Seussical the Musical’. Auditions are occurring next week. The musical will take place in Belltable, Limerick from the 27th to the 29th of March 2025. Due to Triple Threat’s success, this is expected to be another popular performance from the ULMTS.
