Applications for the 24th annual awards are now open, with the ceremony taking place on April 10.
The National Student Media Awards are back for their 24th year, with applications open from today, February 26 until March 7.
Commonly known as The Smedias, these awards celebrate the finest contributions students have made in journalism, photography, film, TV, radio, and more.
The Smedias attract media industry leaders and renowned Irish personalities every year. Past judges and presenters have included esteemed figures such as; Academy Award nominee Lenny Abramson, beloved Liam Cunningham from Game of Thrones, TV personality Laura Whitmore, the accomplished Roz Purcell, and many others.
This event provides students with a unique opportunity to have their work reviewed by experts in their respective fields, undoubtedly offering an advantage post-graduation.
Those at the University of Limerick, the Technological University of the Shannon, and Limerick College of Further Education are no strangers to The Smedias, with a number of awards taken home by Limerick students at last years’ awards.
At the 2023 awards ceremony, the 2022/2023 Limerick Voice Digital Editor, Rachel Petticrew, won the award for Journalism Relating to Health, and Aislinn Kelly, 2022/2023 Limerick Voice Business and Agriculture Editor, was named Features Writer of the Year – Arts and Pop Culture.

In addition to these awards, CURIOUS, a magazine produced by the current Limerick Voice team during their second year at UL, was named Magazine of the Year, also winning the award for Layout and Design of the Year – Magazine.
For the 2024 awards, approximately 37 categories are now open for application – with further information available on the Oxygen.ie website.
This year, the much-anticipated award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Mansion House in Dublin on April 10.
