Limerick Language Exchange (LLE) organized a meeting for people to learn and practice new languages in the city centre on Wednesday, November 1.
This activity took place in Cobblestone Joes from 8.30pm, which is free for people who would like to make friends from different countries.
Limerick Language Exchange is the largest international community in Limerick, where you can find someone to speak and learn different languages and share updates.“The main purpose of the LLE is to give foreign people in Limerick an opportunity to improve their English level through chatting freely,” a member of LLE, Valeria Nico said.
According to Nico, the Limerick Language Exchange meeting takes place every two weeks and each meeting is given a main topic. People would start their conversation using their favorite languages.
This Group has been running for two years now. Limerick Language Exchange celebrated its second birthday last month.
Each member can improve their favourite foreign language and can also give contribute using their native language.
One member from Spain, Xabier Gonn, said that this meeting can help people learn more about lifestyle and culture in Limerick through talking to different people.“I am delighted to have this good opportunity to communicate with people and practice English,” Gonn added.
Francesco Milani, a member in LLE for two years, said that we need to break the language barrier and go outside to talk to people instead of staying at home.
“Don’t be shy and go chatting to get more practice and to enhance English level,” Milani said. “If you do not talk more, your language will never improve and stay in a low level.”
His first time attending this meeting, Pietro said that he is glad to meet international people and make more friends in Limerick. There are no particular rules in these meetings and people can speak to whoever they like and find or discuss interesting topics.
People can also organize and create their own activities and share their ideas for LLE and help members get more chances to practice languages in different ways.
These meetings of LLE will continue to December and besides language meeting they are planning to organize more events out in Limerick and trips across Ireland.
