Local artist Emma Langford’s highly anticipated debut album ‘Quiet Giant’ is to be released this week – Wednesday, October 18.
The first music video for the album is for a song called ‘Closed Book’. The video is set on the streets of Limerick city and Langford hopes that the video “shines a light on the beauty and community of Limerick city”.
She believes that the city’s real ability is not recognised.
“It’s not recognised for the vibrant, creative hub that it is – the sheer volume of visual artists, dancers, musicians, entrepreneurs that come out of Limerick and go out in to the world making it a better place is proof alone of the total creative pressure cooker this county is,” she added. And so, she used the music video to showcase the best that the city has to offer.
Langford described the album as “a melting pot of folk, jazz, rockabilly and world music”.
It’s been described more than once as ‘magical’. Each of the 10 tracks are thought to be different in their own way but are brought together through the string collection and the high quality of production.
Langford says that the inspiration for the songs on the album came from various parts of her life.
“Some songs were inspired by relationships, some by societal issues like mental health, and some by my imagination interacting with the world around me,” she added.
The album was initiated as Langford is due to leave for a tour of Germany and Switzerland later this month with the Irish Folk Festival.
“I found that out in March and had six months from then to pull everything together. Nothing like urgency to inspire creative solutions.”
Following this tour, Langford will be back in Ireland to promote the album, with an album launch in Dolan’s Warehouse on December 2.
“Lots more to be announced, but it feels like 2018 will be exciting year.”
