In the ambient setting of Spice Vintage store on the Quays, 061 Recordings is growing into Limericks hub for music sessions. With a wide range of acts both local and national like Ryan O’ Shaughnessy, Aaron Hackett and Oscar Blue to name but a few, Limerick Voice sat down with Wojciech Kwiatkowski to learn more about this fresh initiative.

The initiative which started in late May aims to bring back the idea of these sessions to Limerick.

“The inspiration came from watching the Steamboat Busker Sessions and I realised that there was nothing like that in Limerick. I noticed after a friend of mine did a documentary on Spice that the space looked really cool and the whole thing started from there really,” says Wojciech.

As the artists take centre stage we discussed more about the man behind the camera and his team.

“I am in my final year studying creative broadcasting in LIT. I have a love for music and initially wanted to do music as my degree but doing creative broadcasting allowed me to earn about camera work and sound through modules. It’s my love for music has helped me through my course and this project.”

“I am lucky that with my course we are able to rent out pieces of equipment as without this we wouldn’t be able to get the recordings we do, which makes a major difference,” he adds.

With the beautiful setting of Spice Vintage providing a warm homely feel for their videos we asked how this effected the overall sound.

“We are lucky that there isn’t too much reverb. The location itself help give the sound a great vibe. It’s a really good place especially when the artist is playing guitar there is a great sound and feel in the videos.”

“We have been recording constantly since late May and already have a back catalogue of artists ready to go up in the coming months. We are lucky that we get a lot of people coming to us looking to perform. The fact that its free for us and for them helps in attracting artists.”

As 061 Recordings continues to grow we asked Wojciech about getting some national names to the recording studio, including former Eurovision contestant Ryan O’Shaughnessy, and their aims for the future.

“As soon as we contacted Ryan he was instantly interested and ready to do it. It’s harder to get bigger artists at the moment but Ryan was certainly a big one.

“The goal is to keep growing. While it would be great to see this turning into something bigger and maybe make money sure it would be great, but we are happy to get our name out there and doing gigs. It would be nice to get sponsorship to make it viable, as doing this alongside college work and jobs makes it quite challenging.”

“We have a great team. I focus on sound and directing we have four members working the cameras. We have a producer and social media team. Overall we are growing into a strong team.”

For more information on 061 recordings you can find them on YouTube or contact them via Instagram if interested in performing or supporting the team.
