THE memoir of the Limerick woman who has been seminal in the campaign for cervical cancer reform has been shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards 2019.
Vicky Phelan’s book ‘Overcoming’ is in the running for Ireland AM Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year and the RTÉ Radio One Listeners’ Choice Award.
RTÉ Radio 1 presenter Ray D’Arcy championed Phelan’s book for the station’s Listeners’ Choice Award.
Meanwhile, three staff members at the University of Limerick have also been shortlisted.
Norah Patten’s ‘Shooting for the Stars’ and Sarah Moore Fitzgerald’s ‘A Strange Kind of Brave’ have both been nominated for Specsaver’s Children’s Book of the Year while Joseph O’Connor’s ‘Shadow Play’ is in the running for Eason’s Novel of the Year.
The public can cast their votes on anpostirishbookawards.ie before the 13th of November.
Voters are entered into a draw to win one of four €100 National Book Tokens voucher.
Winners will be announced at the gala ceremony in the Convention Centre Dublin, Spencer Dock, on Wednesday 20th November.
Highlights of the awards event, presented by Miriam O’Callaghan, will be broadcast on RTÉ One television on Saturday 23rd.
