Fans have been left disappointed as popular Cork music festival will not make a return to Mitchelstown next summer.
Organisers of the popular Indiependence music festival announced on their social media November 29, that they will be taking ‘a little break.’
The North Cork festival attracts tens of thousands of people each year and has brought some big names to the stage including Becky Hill, Bastille, Anne-Marie and Lewis Capaldi.
Indiependence is Munster’s biggest music festival, welcoming up to 12,000 attendees in 2022. This summer, crowds flocked to the esteemed festival for three days to see a variety of big names on the stage including Irish stars, Cian Ducrot and The Coronas.
The renowned event started off in 2006 where it began as small free event in Mitcheltown’s town square. Seventeen years later, the festival has flourished and has since taken place on a 52-acre site, overlooked by the Galtee Mountains.
In a statement on social media, the organisers of Indiependence wrote: “We’ve had some wonderful times and some really difficult ones and now we need a little break to recoup and re-look and hopefully come back stronger.”
Festival fans have expressed their reaction to the news on social media. One Instagram user wrote: “Bring back Indie now! Town needs it.” Aside from disappointment, fans have also expressed their understanding of the festival’s decision. A fan commented: “Amazing people run this every year. Enjoy the break and looking forward to the return.”
Indiependence fans will be waiting in anticipation for the festivals return in 2025. Indiependence finished their statement saying: “Indiependence will be taking a break in 2024 with a view to seeing you again in 2025.”
“Thank you to everyone who has helped us and supported us over the years, we are more grateful than words can explain,” the organisers concluded.
