“This is your chance to be part of a local movement for a greener, fairer future.”
Climate Action Week is back in Limerick and bringing a buzz of eco-friendly energy with it. Launching Monday, April 28, this week-long series of events aims to get everyone talking, thinking, and doing more for the planet.
Hosted by Limerick City and County Council under the theme #GreenForLimerick, the programme mixes practical workshops, creative showcases, and hands-on experiences. Every event is free and open to the public, whether you’re a climate veteran or just getting started.
What’s on this week?
- Monday: A public talk by Anne Dolan on how Irish education is responding to climate change kicks off the week. That evening, a powerful pop-up gallery opens at UL’s city campus featuring climate-themed artwork by local students.
- Tuesday: A virtual info session for communities interested in applying for Climate Action Fund support.
- Wednesday: A packed day includes a healthy batch-cooking workshop at Tait House, a gardening session at King’s Island Community Garden, and a biodigester demo hosted by Climate Action Project Network. Later, UL’s CWELL programme will launch its Community Energy Coaches.
- Thursday: Drop into the Energy Café at Limerick City Library for practical tips on reducing your energy bills or head to Griston Bog for an afternoon of dance, crafts, and citizen science.
- Saturday: Families can enjoy two Toy Library Swap & Play events, while the UL campus will host a free repair workshop where volunteers help breathe life into broken items.
- Sunday: Climate Action Week closes with a dance performance in Castleconnell, celebrating community-led environmental storytelling.
Dr Darren Barry, Community Climate Action Officer at Limerick City and County Council, said:
“Climate Action Week Limerick reminds us that real change isn’t just possible; it’s already happening throughout Limerick City and County, and we are all part of it. Whether you are a seasoned eco-activist or just beginning your journey, this is your chance to be part of a local movement for a greener, fairer future.”
