The weather came out to play for a perfect afternoon of fundraising
The Cook Medical Mini Marathon welcomed a whopping 3,500 people this Sunday afternoon taking part in both the five and ten kilometres race in aid of charities nationwide. Friends and family members gathered along the sidelines handing out water and energy bars as they cheered for those taking part.
Taking place at the University of Limerick Sports Arena, participants brought high spirits to the fundraiser as the beautiful weather persevered. People walked, jogged and ran the course with both, beginners and experienced runners, taking part in the event. “I couldn’t even run one kilometre a month ago’ exclaims Sinead Coll, who participated in the ten-kilometre course. “The atmosphere was just so electric this afternoon, that’s what kept me going,” she says.
The Mini Marathon – a full success
HR director Carla DiBenedetto remarks on this year’s mini marathon “It’s all about community spirit and enjoyment, while also raising vital funds for important causes”. The race ambassador also states how inspired and “truly honoured” Cook Medical was to be part of the event.
The mini marathon is anticipated to have raised over €50,000.
This was the 26th Limerick Mini Marathon, with Cook Medical being their leading sponsor for the 9th consecutive year. Other Limerick sponsors included Spin South West, the Savoy, The Limerick City Council and the Limerick Athletic Club.
