Emerging Limerick Musicians Drop New Single ‘Glór na Bogini’

Singer-Songwriters Dora Gola and JaYne
A song celebrating the Polish and Irish culture

Debuting their new single at the Polish Arts Festival last weekend, local Limerick musicians Dora Gola and JaYne are set to release their intercultural and collaborative track Glór na Bogini’ on Spotify, tomorrow, October 4.

The two singer-songwriters originally came together to create a song for the Polish Arts Festival (PAF) fusing both the Polish and Irish language to celebrate their cultures´ ancient femininity and its significance in today’s society.

The Unique Paths of Dora and JaYne

The two singers were introduced to each other by Justyna Cwojdzinska, the founder of the Polish Arts Festival.

Dora, originally from Poland, emigrated to Limerick in 2008 and now lives in Lahinch, where she runs a singing and performance school. Known for her blend of pop, jazz, folk, and indie, she creates an intimate connection with her audience through her dance and music.

With a BA in Songwriting from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, JaYne, the Irish singer-songwriter from Limerick, has a passion for jazz and soul in her captivating melodies and vocal style. The new song is therefore in a completely new style than her previous music. “This was really different for me and it was really nice to work with Dora,” JaYne says.

“It’s been a beautiful experience, it’s so special to me and I’m super proud of the song” Dora begins, reflecting on her musical journey.

The Power of Goddesses as a Source of Inspiration

‘Glor na Bogini’ is a direct translation to ‘Voice of the Goddess’ a blend of the Polish and Irish language – “Glór” the Irish word for voice coupled with “Bogini”, Polish for the Goddess. The song originates from the two artists deriving folklore from both Polish and Irish culture, more specifically, goddesses that empower them from their home countries.

“My goddess is Mokosh. She’s the mother goddess of all women. She’s the protector of women’s work.” Dora comments.
“I chose the Celtic goddess Danu,” says JaYne. “She represents the waters and the rivers. She represents looking after the Earth. That appeals to me because (…) we’re now in a time where we really do need to be reminded about looking after the earth.” The artist adds.

Embracing Polish Roots Through Music

While speaking about the collaborative release, Dora touched on the importance of her Polish roots, as singing and songwriting have given her the freedom to unleash her authentic self. “And when I came to Ireland almost 17 years ago, I really tried to fit in for so long”, she explained. For example, she tried to lose her accent. “When I recently started writing new material, I was told that my accent is actually cool,” she mentioned. She was told: “Please don’t get rid of it, because it makes you, you!” “It was a whole new chapter for me,” remarks the songwriter, “We should keep our accents because it’s what makes (a song) special.”

‘Glor na Bogini’ is available to stream since Spotify October 4.
