Sweet celebration: Limerick Musical Society brings Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life

Limerick Musical Society officially launched its 25th-anniversary production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a special event at South’s Bar in Limerick City on Monday, March 11.

The musical, which will run from April 3rd to 5th, promises to be a vibrant and nostalgic show for all ages.

Speaking at the launch, Chairperson Fergal Moore reflected on the journey so far, saying, We have been dreaming this dream since last May, planning for this wonderful production.” He added, “We are so excited to get the show on the road.”

The production will include “some of the songs from the original film, along with new music from the 2013 musical,” he mentioned, giving audiences both familiar and fresh elements to enjoy.

Ber Hickey, who plays Mrs. Gloop, Augustus’ mother, spoke about the unique nature of this year’s show. “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is… not a classic, it’s something very, very different, not what we usually do. It’s very family-focused and very nostalgic for people.” She also highlighted the commitment involved, noting, “It’s an insane amount of work, so much work behind the scenes, in terms of rehearsals, and we do promotional events outside of that as well.”

Alongside the production, Moore announced details of the annual Limerick Musical Society Ball, which will take place on May 2nd at 7:30 pm in the Castletroy Park Hotel. “This will feature a 17-piece brass band, tickets will be available from the committee in the near future,” he said.

With excitement building, the launch event set the stage for what promises to be a spectacular milestone production for the Limerick Musical Society.
