The youth-focused theatre group perform a play every year in partnership with a disability service
‘A Night on the Town’ produced by Limerick Youth Theatre and directed by Myles Breen, will be running in the Belltable on March 19 and 20.
This year, the Creative Show is being produced in collaboration with Avista. Avista is a rights-based organisation that is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with disabilities. They currently provide services in Limerick, North Tipperary, and Dublin.

Angie Smalis, head of Limerick Youth Theatre, spoke to the Limerick Voice about collaborating with Avista. “The individuals in Avista work with Myles Breen, Andy Connolly and me all year round, and train in Theatre/drama, music composition, contemporary dance and choreography. The collaboration is very meaningful for all involved and all see the benefits of creative practices in everyday life.”
Angie said the show is a celebration of Limerick through a variety of scenes set in both past and present. “The Creative Show’s scriptwriter & director, Myles Breen, has been paying everyone’s respects to Limerick in every script he has so far written for this project.”
Limerick Youth Theatre was set up in 1997 in Limerick City with a vision of providing a two-year training course for young adults from all backgrounds to cross social/cultural divides through youth drama experiences.
Angie has high hopes for the future of the Creative Show in Limerick to keep providing a positive, creative outlet for all young artists. “We hope that we can continue to work together, making art and learning from each other. We also hope that we can continue to provide work opportunities to professional artists and provide this experience to professional artists.”
