College Christmas Day is a highly anticipated event for students across Limerick. Every year they take to the streets of Limerick city, dressed in Christmas jumpers to celebrate before their end-of-semester exams. Celebrations for University of Limerick students are set to take place Wednesday, November 15.  As pubs and nightclubs across Limerick get ready for one of their busiest days of the year, here’s what you can expect for this year’s celebrations:

The Black Rabbit, Cruises Street will open its doors at 12pm to students. Here you will find performances from DJ Paul Fitz, DJ Kevin Healy Rae, and trumpet player Rick Swann throughout the night.

Molly’s Bar, Ellen Street will open at 2pm. Molly’s Bar are organising a ‘Santa’s Grotto Meet and Greet,’ and free gifts will be available on the day. Radio host and DJ Richard Saunders will be playing followed by DJ Evan O’Connor.

Angel Lane Nightclub, Cornmarket Row are giving students the chance to win a €500 bar tab in a competition on their Instagram. Doors open from 12pm, where students can enjoy live DJs and Christmas themed drinks.

D’icon and Smyths Bar, Denmark Street have also organised an Instagram competition with the prizes being a €500 bar tab and the chance to train to be a DJ for the night alongside their eight DJs set to perform on Wednesday. Doors open at 12pm.

Amber, Howley’s Quay will be open from 2pm. Amber will be bringing out Dublin band ‘Riff Shop,’ as one of their many music acts to take place across the night.

Other venue’s opening their doors to students include The Red Hen, Charlie Chaplin’s Pub, Clohessy’s and Pharmacia.

The Moose Bar, Cathedral Place is for the hardcore Christmas Day goers. The bar is gearing up to welcome everyone from 7:30am and has asked for those partaking in the festivities to, “wear your best jumper, your best smile and form a queue”, outside their doors in the morning.

Some students have been looking forward to this event all semester. “Christmas Day is definitely my favourite night out every year. Everyone is in a great mood and it’s the last big night out before we finish up for the Christmas holidays, so everyone makes the most of it,” said Vivienne O’Donovan, UL student.

It is recommended that students queue for their preferred venue at least an hour before doors open to guarantee entry. Student Christmas Day can be a long day of celebrations and drinking. It is advised to drink at your own pace, take breaks, and look after yourself and your friends. Venues and streets will be very busy, make sure your phone is charged to keep in touch with your friends in the event you can’t find them. Stay safe and enjoy!
