Hot Debut: RuntheRed is about to launch their first track “In Georgia”
University of Limerick student Ciara Duffy, the lead vocalist of RunTheRed, spoke to Limerick Voice reporter Alan White about their upcoming debut single, “In Georgia,” set to release on Friday, October 11.
RunTheRed is a Dublin-based group poised to make its debut this week. The band consists of lead singer Ciara Duffy, violinist Ana Murphy, and guitarist Amy Barry. They hope to captivate listeners with their powerful lyrics. Ciara shares, “For me, lyrics are the biggest part of music.”
After an exclusive listen to the track – listeners can look forward to an anthem of empowerment that emphasises self-worth. Their song, “In Georgia,” is an acoustic track that portrays the heartbreak of being left behind while an ex-lover embarks on a journey of self-discovery. The song starts with a melancholic tone and gradually builds intensity, transitioning from sadness to empowerment in its final sequence.
A track with pep and a message
In Ciara’s words, “In Georgia” starts with a “sad message, but by the end, you take your power back, and it gets almost aggressive in a way.”
She expresses her love for acoustic music and her admiration for Phoebe Bridgers. “The idea with ‘In Georgia’ is that we could display all of that in one song,” she explains.
Ciara’s favourite lyric from the song is, “Let’s just run the red. It’s not like I’ll make it to 50.” This line also inspired the band’s name. Ciara elaborates on the verse: “It’s like a double meaning—if you’re running a red light, you just go through it because it’s not like you’ll be able to slow down and come to a full stop. But it also captures that feeling of love so intense, it could destroy you.”
RunTheRed’s stage debut on October 3
RunTheRed made their stage debut on Thursday, October 3, ahead of the song’s release, at the launch party of the “Flowers by the Fire Escape.” in Juno Bar, Dorset St, in Dublin. They performed their upcoming single, “In Georgia,” along with an unreleased track.
“It was amazing, considering it was our first time performing together,” Ciara says. She describes the thrill of standing on stage. “We got a standing ovation at the end, which was really cool,” she adds.
Collaboration with Conor McAllister
Ciara recently began collaborating with Conor McAllister, a musician who frequently performs around Limerick, including at the Stables Club on Mondays. “He is really, really talented,” Ciara says.
The two artists share a passion for the Irish music community. “Our love for our history is shown through music,” states Ciara, who enjoys the idea of incorporating Irish instruments into their compositions to give “an Irish twist on modern music.”
“In Georgia” will be released on all streaming platforms this Friday, October 11, as RunTheRed plans to “get the ball rolling” after its release.
