One of Limerick’s greatest sportsmen Andy Lee narrates the story of sport in Limerick in the upcoming documentary ‘A City’s Love Affair’.

The documentary, which documents the county’s great and unwavering love of sport, is part of the Newstalk Winter Documentary Series and airs on Newstalk 106-108fm on November 12.

‘A City’s Love Affair’ examines the relationship between Limerick and sport, a place where there are 101,000 capacities across 5 stadia for a metropolitan population of 105,000 people.

The documentary was produced and edited by Eric Moylan and is narrated by Olympian and former WBO Middleweight world champion Andy Lee.

Listeners will get an insight into just how much sport means to Limerick with great sports people from the county, as well as people who have contributed a great deal to sport in Limerick, such as Munster and Irish player Keith Earls, Irish women’s rugby captain and community guard Niamh Briggs and businessman JP McManus, taking part in this documentary.

Featuring interviews and archived audio from some of the moments that shaped sport in Limerick, the documentary will showcase how the athletes and the fans dealt with the highs-and-lows of sport in the county.

Focusing on a variety of sports, the documentary attempts to answer the question as to what drives the passion for both fans and athletes in Ireland’s sporting capital.

The documentary will be airing on Newstalk 106-108fm at 7am and repeated at 11pm on Saturday November 12 and will also be available as a podcast here.
