Part of a structure at the back of a property in Kilfinane fell on the man

A man has been seriously injured in Limerick this morning after part of a structure fell on him causing what is believed to be crush injuries.  

The emergency which is being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority occurred in Kilfinane this morning, February 18.  

It is understood that the man was working alone and phoned the emergency services himself shortly after 10 am. He was clearing the back of a property in Kilfinane when a wall close to him fell, it is thought that this happened because of its foundation weakening over time.  

A major response was activated with the air ambulance, paramedics with the national ambulance service, firefighters from Killmallock and gardaí all attending the scene.  

He was flown to hospital for treatment. His injuries are said to be serious, but not life-threatening.
