Gardai have arrested a man over the ‘fatal assault’ of a woman in Rathkeale last summer.
The man, aged in his early 50s, was arrested on Tuesday, February 21 in connection with the death of music teacher Louise Muckell, who was found with ‘serious injuries’ at a residence in Cois Deel, Rathkeale on the evening of Tuesday, July 19 last year.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, a Garda spokesperson said the man “has been conveyed to Henry Street Garda Station”, where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
“Investigations are ongoing,” they added.
Ms Muckell was rushed to University Hospital Limerick by ambulance after being discovered at the property last summer but sadly died the following day.
Appealing for information at the time, a Garda spokesperson said Ms Muckell “may have frequented a residence on Windmill Street (Limerick City) in the day or days prior to her discovery”.
The arrest marks the first time Ms Muckell’s unexplained death has been referred to as a ‘fatal assault’.
