A man aged in his late teens is being held at a Garda station in Limerick.
Gardaí have arrested a man this Sunday, November 12, in relation to the fatal hit-and-run of Limerick Voice’s editor-in-chief and award-winning University of Limerick journalism student, Joe Drennan.
Just shy of a month since the fatal incident, Gardaí have confirmed that a man, aged in his late teens, is currently detained in a Limerick City Garda station.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have today arrested a man in relation to the fatal road traffic collision on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, County Limerick, on October 13, 2023, which resulted in the death of a man in his 20s.
“The man aged in his late teens, is currently detained under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1999, at a garda station in Limerick city.”
The two-car collision took place on Dublin Road in Castletroy, a university suburb east of Limerick city centre.
A male pedestrian, since named as 21-year-old Joe Drennan, was removed to University Hospital Limerick and later pronounced dead.
The collision occurred at 9.50pm and involved two cars, however, the driver of one car failed to remain at the scene.
A male driver in his 40s and the female adult passenger of the second car were removed to University Hospital Limerick for injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
Joe Drennan, journalism student from Knocknagad, Mountrath, County Laois, was the beloved friend of all at the Limerick Voice and our proud editor-in-chief.
