Award-Winning Limerick City and County Council walking campaign returns

‘Limerick on Foot’ is back – aiming to get Limerick active!

Limerick City and County Council’s award-winning campaign, ‘Limerick on Foot’, is back to inspire people to get out walking, running and hiking along some of Limerick’s most scenic and popular routes.

Launched by Limerick City and County Council’s Marketing and Communications Department, ‘Limerick on Foot’ won the Health and Wellbeing Award at the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2023.

The campaign will run until the beginning of March, and features dedicated social and video content, a new print and digital guide and a comprehensive ‘Limerick on Foot’ hub on Limerick.ie – an excellent resource for those striving to meet their health and fitness goals for 2024.

Limerick is an ideal city to discover on foot and visitors and locals are encouraged to explore its looped walks and recreational riverside routes. Follow in the footsteps of a legendary Limerick athlete on the Neil Cusack Olympic Trail, soak up the city sights on the Limerick City Loop Walk, or explore the Castletroy Loop Walk, a 6.8km Slí na Sláinte circuit in the city’s bustling suburb.

3 Bridges Route

The guide features 18 tracks and trails across County Limerick, from Curraghchase Forest Park Trails to challenging Galtymore and the Attychraan Loop and the Limerick Greenway in the west of the county. This year’s campaign also shines a spotlight on the recently developed Limerick Regional Athletics Hub in Newcastle West; a municipal facility comprising a world-class standard eight-lane synthetic athletics track, catering to the full range of track and field events.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said: “I am delighted to see the return of this award-winning campaign for Limerick City and County. We encourage people of all ages to continue exploring Limerick on Foot throughout 2024. Walking is one of the easiest and most enjoyable activities and with so many terrific tracks and trails to discover around Limerick, getting active or taking some time out to embrace nature does not have to be costly or inaccessible.”

Donn O’Sullivan, Head of Marketing and Communications with Limerick City and County Council added: “With handy maps, guides and videos, Limerick on Foot is a call to action, encouraging everyone to get out and explore Limerick this springtime and beyond. If you are thinking of throwing on the runners for the first time in 2024, or you want to pencil in more family-time in nature, there is a route or trail to suit you.”
