Big success for a US Multinational Company in the health and tech sector
On November 17, the regional business awards took place – the biggest night for the business community of Limerick.
The President’s Dinner and Award ceremony had some very special guests in attendance, such as Limerick Senior Hurling Manager John Kiely and An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
The annual President’s Award was given to Limerick hurling manager John Kiely on behalf of his four-in-a-row champions.
On a big awards night for Limerick hurling, Mr Kiely was in attendance at the Limerick City awards ceremony as seven of his 2023 heroes were being recognised at the All-Stars Banquet in the RDS, with his star player, Aaron Gillane, picking up the Player of the Year Award.
Some eight companies from across the region were presented with individual category awards, with the Overall Company of the Year award going to Carelon Global Solutions Ireland.
The company established only two years ago in Limerick with an initial 60 posts, but has already hired 230 people, drawn from 32 different nationalities. Carelon Global Solutions Ireland develops services and processes that will help identify individual and wider public health interventions to enable people to live healthier and longer lives as well as identify efficiency gains in healthcare provision.
John Patrick Shaw, the Chief Country Executive of Carelon Global Solutions, said: “Winning these two awards is a validation of our strategy, of our optimism and of our hiring plan and most of all our team, the incredibly talented people we’re proud to work with over these past two years. We came to Limerick in November 2021, and we had one project and 60 jobs to hire. Two years later we’ve 230 people hired and we’ve 12 projects.
“Of those 230 people, over half are what we call ‘new Irish’, drawn from 32 nations. We’re heading fast for 50:50 gender balance and already have that in our leadership. So that’s the very special mix of talent we have at Carelon. And you need that diversity. Organisations with diversity thrive and we’re an example of that.
“It’s a city with two great universities, and it’s a city with a very strong business ecosystem and technology ecosystem. So, we could see all of those factors, you know, influencing our decision to come here. But it was only when we got into the city and got into the work and got into the activity of hiring and building software, we then realised the magic of Limerick. So, the promise was there, but the ability of the city to deliver is there as well.
“So, for us, this is a city where great things happen. It’s a city that’s open for business. It’s got a proven track record. It’s got the infrastructure. It’s got the mindset. It’s got the leaders and it’s got the people”.
In addition to the President’s Award to John Kiely, and Overall Company of the Year to Carelon Global Solutions Ireland, eight category awards were presented.
