Gardaí have opened an investigation after the body of a man, believed to be in his forties, was found on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick on Thursday, September 19.
The body is believed to have been there for almost a month.
The Garda Press Office has stated that “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of the body of an adult male on the grounds of premises on St. Nessans Road, Limerick on Thursday.”
It is understood a member of staff made the discovery late Thursday night, near the helipad at the rear of the hospital, away from the clinical areas.
The body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination is to take place at a later date.
A large carpark and its adjoining greenways have been sealed off. Gardaí remain at the scene with an investigation ongoing.
