Booker Prize winning author, Bernardine Evaristo is coming to Femfest 2025. The event will be held tonight, Monday March 10, in Mary Immaculate College (MIC) with doors opening at 6:30pm.

Femfest 2025 will take place in the Tara building in Room T118 on MIC’s Limerick Campus. Tonight’s event will feature esteemed author, Bernardine Evaristo and award-winning Journalist, Ciana Campbell.

The festival is a biannual event celebrating feminism in the 21st century including social, economic and cultural achievements made by women. It also highlights the struggles women face to promote conversion around these topics.

The event has been held as far back as 2022 and takes place all over the country. Interviews and talks are held with speakers such as Justine McCarthy, Dr Molly Daly and Dr Hannagh McGinley.

Bernardine Evaristo has written nine other books over a range of different genres. One of her most impressive achievements is that she is the first black woman as well as British black person to win the Booker prize, a prestigious literary award, for her book Girl, Woman, Other in 2019. Her novel, Mr Loverman, was also released this year as an eight-part BBC drama in 2013.

Cianna Campbell will be interviewing Ms. Evaristo at the event tonight. The journalist is a co-founder of the Ennis Book club Festival and is a winner of the A.T. Cross Woman Journalist Award.

Femfest’s organiser, Dr Katherine Laing, a lecturer in the department of English and English Literature in MIC, stated that “As a longstanding advocate and activist for inclusion in literature and the arts, she has championed throughout her career the voices of the marginalised and created narratives that celebrate diversity, resilience and humanity’’

To make the event even more enticing, it is free, but registration is essential. To attend the event, sign up here on the MIC FemFest 2025 website.
