The Limerick Sports Partnership (LSP) announced details of the once off €25,000 grant yesterday in order to encourage participation in local sports clubs and community groups in Limerick.
Speaking at the launch of The Sports Club/ Community Links Grants Scheme LSP Coordinator Phelim Macken said:
“The aim of the Sports Partnership is to increase participation in sport and it is envisaged that all projects funded under this scheme will help to do just that, particularly in disadvantaged sectors of the population.”
Mr. Macken further explained that: “The purpose of this scheme is to encourage local sports clubs to develop links with schools and community groups and to jointly develop a programme or event that will help to attract members of the community to take part in sport and physical activity.
“This will not only help to improve the overall health of local communities but will also help to attract new members to participating sports clubs,” he added.
Irish Olympic athletes Thomas Barr and Sinead Jennings who both competed at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games launched the scheme which is supported by Sport Ireland.
