Limerick City and County Council have announced the details of a new parking incentive that will be in place in Limerick City, Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale this Christmas.
The new “Free From 3” scheme will make parking at all on-street parking spaces free from 3pm each day during the festive period.
The incentive begins on Thursday, December 3 and will run until Thursday, December 24, inclusive.
The ‘Free From 3’ initiative follows the introduction of ‘Limerick e-Parking’, a branded mobile parking payments service introduced by the Council in recent weeks.
‘Free From 3’ aims to increase footfall on the streets and Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Liam Galvin said the scheme “will be very much welcomed by both local retailers and the public alike”.
“The Christmas lights displays and the comprehensive Christmas in Limerick programme of events are complemented by the ‘Free From 3’ initiative which will further help to create a festive atmosphere and enhance the overall shopping experience” he added.
The new parking initiatives and Christmas programmes are part of a wide plan to support local businesses and Mayor Galvin has “urged shoppers throughout Limerick City and County to buy local this Christmas” in order to “sustain employment within the community”.
The programme of events taking place in Limerick this Christmas can be viewed at www.limerick.ie/christmas.
It includes events like ‘Limerick on Ice’, ‘The Santa Experience’, and ‘Enchanted by Franc’.
‘Limerick e-parking’ is available as a free app, by calling +353 61 303093, or by visiting www.limerickparking.ie.
The service enables customers to avail of 30-minutes parking for as little as €0.50.
