I’d like to take a moment to welcome everyone to the launch of the 2021/2022 edition of the Limerick Voice.
My name is William Kellett and I will be taking on the role of Digital Editor for the year ahead.
As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is great to be finally back on campus after 18 months of remote learning.
Seeing our campus alive with students again after so many months of Zoom calls and online lectures warms the heart, and long may it continue.
For us at the Limerick Voice, we have big plans for the coming year now that we can get our team of over 30 reporters out and about across Limerick.
The city is coming alive again and we will be right there to bring you all the latest news that we have become known for over the years.
News over the last 18 months has had an air of doom and gloom about it with news of COVID case numbers; restrictions on our daily lives and news of overcrowded hospitals dominated the headlines.
As we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and edge ever closer to the life we previously knew, we at the Limerick Voice will be covering those stories that our readers have become accustomed to over the years.
This is why we have chosen “The name you know, the voice you need” as our mission statement for this year.
Our coverage of news and events from Limerick has won numerous awards in previous years and our current team of journalists are determined to keep up this high standard and give our readers the news that matters most to them.
While current affairs will undoubtedly feature we also have a strong sports writing team who will be able to get back to reporting from the sidelines after months of sports being held behind closed doors.
While Limerick achieved great things by adding another Liam MacCarthy Cup to their trophy cabinet, they also represent Ireland on the world stage at the Olympics in Tokyo this summer.
We will also be bringing a wide range of features to our readers from human interest; to music; TV and film; and sport to name a few.
Podcasts soared in popularity last year and the Limerick Voice will be building on the success of our podcasts last year, with dedicated news and sports podcasts coming out on a weekly basis.
A social media expansion is also in the works, so be prepared to see a lot more of us across Facebook; Twitter; Instagram and our soon-to-be-launched TikTok.
We will strive to be the voice for every story, no matter how big or small it is, and we look forward to bringing you along on our journey through everything that is happening in Limerick and beyond.
