Emergency services respond to a fire on Dock Road in Limerick city

The fire broke out at an apartment building at Steamboat Quay on the Dock Road beside the Clayton Hotel in the city on Sunday, February 9.

Photographs seen by the Limerick Voice show a large cloud of smoke in the area.

Limerick Fire and Rescue Service received a call at approximately 12.40pm in relation to a large, well developed fire in an apartment building at Steamboat Quay, Limerick City.

Multiple fire service units were deployed from both Limerick city and county to contain the blaze. The fire service was able to quickly contain and control the fire, the building was evacuated and nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

The fire was contained to one apartment and the remaining apartments are still intact.

In a statement to the Limerick Voice, The Limerick Fire and Rescue service say that “The effective and decisive actions of the first responding fire crews prevented what could have been a very serious incident.”

All fire crews left the scene at approximately 3pm.
