In aid of the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick, Andy Nolan, local engineer and UL PhD student, will tackle his sixth climb of the ‘Seven Summits Challenge’
Andy Nolan, Stryker Limerick Quality Engineer, intends to tackle Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica (4,892 m), this coming December, in aid of the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick. This will be his sixth mountain in the ‘Seven Summit Challenge’, in which experienced climbers attempt to climb the seven highest mountains in each of the seven continents. He has previously tackled Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa (5,895m), Mount Elbrus on the Europe and Russian border (5,642m), Mount Aconcagua in South America (6,961m), Mount Kosciuszko in Australia (2,228 m), and most recently Mount Denali, Alaska, in May 2023 (6,194m).
The experienced mountain climber will be raising money for Children’s Grief Centre in Ballinacurra, Limerick. The centre is a support service for school-aged children and young people who have experienced a major loss in their lives due to death, separation, or divorce. Nolan spoke to Limerick Voice saying that, ‘every penny’ raised is going directly to the charity as all of his climbs are fully self-funded.
