Homeowners are being urged to take additional security measures including locking windows and doors and keeping keys out of sight, in the wake of a spate of recent burglaries.

Gardaí are investigating a burglary in Limerick where intruders broke into a house, stole several items, and later abandoned the homeowner’s car.

The incident occurred overnight between Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, at a property in Kileely, north of the city.

The burglars entered the house while the residents were asleep and took several valuables, including car keys. They then stole the homeowner’s car, which was later found abandoned in Charleville, Co.Cork.

In a separate burglary in Adare, thieves targeted a property in the early hours of Saturday, March 2, stealing a grey BMW 5 Series. The vehicle was later found in the Corbally area of Limerick city.

Gardaí have launched investigations into both incidents and are appealing for any witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Henry Street or Roxboro Road Garda Stations.

Similar crimes have been reported in the Monaleen, Keelgrove and Castleconnell. Authorities are reminding homeowners to take security precautions, such as locking windows and doors and keeping keys out of sight.

Garda John Finnerty, speaking with the Limerick Leader said “We would advise all car owners not to leave their car keys where they could be easily accessible to criminals in the event of a burglary. When retiring for the night bring the car keys upstairs with you. We have noticed a recent trend where many criminals break into houses and then steal both family cars that are parked outside. Don’t make it easy for criminals. Take as many crime prevention precautions as you can”.
