John O’Shea to lead Ireland ahead of June Friendlies

Waterford-born John O’Shea is being assisted by first-team coach Glenn Walsh and assistant manager Paddy McCarthy.

Ex-professional football player, John O’Shea, is set to continue his reign as Interim head coach for two more games with the Republic of Ireland team. The June Friendlies will see Ireland take on both Portugal and Hungary this Summer.

Ireland will be playing against Hungary in the Aviva Stadium on June 4, 2024, and exactly one week after this, the team will fly out to take on Portugal in the Aveiro Municipal Stadium on June 11.

John took charge for the 2024 March Friendlies also, in which Ireland were up against Belgium, where the two teams finished in a draw with no goals scored by either, and Switzerland, who came out on top, beating Ireland.

Waterford-born John O’Shea is being assisted by first-team coach Glenn Walsh and assistant manager Paddy Mc Carthy. Former coach Brian Kerr will not be in attendance despite assisting with March Friendlies due to prior commitments.

The Football Association of Ireland have been experiencing difficulties in replacing former manager Stephen Kenny, believing someone new may not be appointed until September of this year, just in time for the Nations League against England. The FAI previously said someone would be instated in April, failing to uphold that, they later apologised for the uncertainty.

In the meantime, John declared that it was an honour to be asked to represent his country and is keen on wanting the Republic of Ireland job full-time.
