D2C LAB 2025: A fusion of street and contemporary dance
Dance 2 Connect (D2C) LAB will perform at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance on Wednesday, April 2, at 4.15 pm. The seventh edition of the programme brings together Irish and international artists in Limerick for a three-day workshop.
Founded by Promenade-supported artist Matt Szczerek, D2C LAB is designed for dancers at the intersection of street and contemporary dance. The D2C Lab is open to intermediate and advanced dancers from all disciplines, where participants will sharpen their choreographic skills and technique and explore creative approaches through a shared learning experience.
Selected participants will work with guest choreographers and develop a performance piece over the course of the workshop. Speaking about the performance piece, Matt shares that the D2C Lab will be rooted in Krump practice with contemporary touches. “It will explore the liberation of body and mind in difficult times of unrest, delving into the idea of a caging, asking what liberation means to all of us.”
This year, Dutch dance artist, Ques Zaalman, will mentor this year’s programme. The leading figure in European Krump culture has thought Krump globally at various programmes.
Previous D2CLab choreographers and mentors include Mark “Brui5er” Sheats, US-based choreographers Lisa Berman (MonaLisa) and Joseph Tran (MN Joe), Elon Hoglund from Tentacle Tribe, Antony Missen from Company Chameleon, and Joseph Toonga from Just US company.
The initiative is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland and supported by Dance Ireland. For the first time, Luail, Ireland’s national dance company, will also support the programme.
