Limerick Hurler Kyle Hayes must wait until at least March to find out if he will be jailed for his previous conviction.

In March 2024, All-Star hurler Kyle Hayes (26) received a two-year suspended sentence after being convicted in December 2023 on two counts of violent disorder at the Icon nightclub in Limerick City on October 28, 2019. He was also ordered to pay €10,0000 in compensation to the victim, Cillian McCarthy, for injuries and loss of earnings.

Hayes appeared before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on Monday, February 10 for reentry of his previous suspended sentence. During the hearing, Judge Michael P Walsh deferred a decision on the suspended sentence to be revisited in March 2025. The postponement is pending the outcome of Hayes’ appeal against a separate dangerous driving conviction.

Hayes was convicted of Dangerous Driving in September 2024 at Mallow District Court. The court heard Hayes was driving at a speed of 150 km in a 100 km speed limit zone on the day. Garda Deirdre Barrett told the court that she observed Hayes overtake nine other vehicles while travelling at high speed in his white Audi. The appeal is scheduled to take place in Cork Circuit Criminal Court on the week of March 11.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, the court will determine whether his previous conviction should be reinforced.
