“It’s been a fantastic journey, really. The entire thing,” said Jack McKay, Managing Editor of Limerick Voice, at the launch of the news outlet’s 18th printed edition on Wednesday, February 19.
The award-winning Limerick Voice newspaper hit the streets 2025, with over 50 stories covering news, sports and features.

This year’s edition features a number of exclusive reports written by University of Limerick journalism students, including a front-page story about the exploitation by criminal gangs of children as young as eight to deliver drugs.

Students took centre stage at the event, promoting their stories and showcasing their work across the final year, both in print and online.

“We really wanted the section to reflect both the successes and struggles we see in Limerick today,” explained Anne Marie Roberts, Feature Editor. “I want to thank all the reporters who wrote such interesting and compelling pieces and put so much effort into telling stories that matter.”

Sports Editor John O’Donnell also reflected on the team’s achievements: “We are proud to say that we’ve established ourselves among sports fans and organizations in Limerick and beyond (…).”

Limerick Mayor John Moran praised the publication’s impact, saying: “There is only one word I can use for that speech, and that is ‘wow’—that is an amazing body of work. There is nothing more important in today’s world than news (…), and I hope you’ve learned that through your time here.”

The event was live-streamed on the Limerick Voice Instagram channel.
