Limerick’s energy-efficient Christmas lights will be turned on in November.

The finishing touches are currently being put on Limerick’s Christmas offering, which will be unveiled in a few weeks to help promote Limerick City as a place to visit during the festive season.

Limerick City and County Council has engaged a new company to create a Christmas spirit in the city this year, which will include family fun events, street fairs brimming with local seasonal splendours, twinkling illuminations and a host of after dark theatre, music and merriment!

Galway-based creative production company Milestone has a wealth of experience in providing high-quality Christmas events, having showcased the renowned Christmas Market in Galway for the past decade.

Aiming to bring a jolly spirit to the Treaty City, the city’s energy-efficient Christmas lights will be turned on in November, with the Christmas Fayre beginning at the end of that month.

Extra funding has been allocated to create this year’s festive atmosphere, starting in November and continuing across the month of December, in place of the traditional one-off event of turning on the city’s lights.

In addition to Limerick City and County Council-funded events, King John’s Castle, the Limerick City Traders’ Association and others will have their own events taking place over the festive period to ensure there is a generous sprinkling of Christmas spirit right across the city.

Free parking will be available in the Council Car Park off Nicholas Street at weekends, while on-street parking on Sundays will be free.

The overarching aim is to ensure that Limerick is an attractive location for people of all ages – from the young to the not so young – as they visit Limerick this winter.

Eileen Coleman, Head of Tourism with Limerick City and County Council, commented, “We are really looking forward to Christmas in Limerick this year. Milestone are a well-respected company with an impressive track record delivering unforgettable Christmas experiences. We are finalising our plans and look forward to sharing them with the people of Limerick and further afield in the coming weeks.”
