Limerick has been announced as the host city for the WFDF 2026 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC), one of the largest events under the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF). The tournament will bring approximately 3,500 athletes and team staff from 48 countries to the University of Limerick (UL) campus for an eight-day competition.

The event is expected to deliver a significant economic boost to the region, generating an estimated 30,000 bed nights as athletes, coaches, and supporters travel to Limerick. The tournament finals will also be live-streamed to an international audience, showcasing Limerick and the Mid-West region on a global stage.

A Growing Sporting Hub

Welcoming the announcement, Councillor Peter Doyle, speaking on behalf of the Mayor, highlighted Limerick’s growing reputation as a premier sporting destination.
“Limerick’s ability to attract an event of this scale is a reflection of our outstanding facilities and the city’s growing reputation as a premier sporting hub. We know from previous experience that hosting the WFDF 2026 World Ultimate Club Championships will not only provide an economic boost but create a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere across the city and county as we welcome the Ultimate community to our shores,” he said.

The decision to award Limerick the 2026 WUCC follows the city’s successful hosting of the WFDF 2022 World Masters Ultimate Club Championships, which saw high participation demand, and the 2023 EUF European Ultimate Championships.

A Collaborative Effort

Limerick’s bid for the tournament was led by Siege Events, in partnership with UL Conference and Sports Campus, Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau, Fáilte Ireland, and Limerick City and County Council.

Tournament Director and Siege Events’ lead Liam Grant expressed excitement about bringing the event to Ireland.
“The last two editions of this event were held in Ohio, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it to Limerick in 2026. The UL campus provides the perfect setting for a tournament of this scale, and we look forward to welcoming the international Ultimate community to experience the hospitality, energy, and passion that Limerick has to offer,” he said.

David Ward, Sports Business Development Manager at UL Conference & Sports Campus, emphasised the university’s track record in hosting large-scale sporting events.
“University of Limerick successfully created an Olympic village-style atmosphere during the past two tournaments, offering athletes and supporters a seamless and immersive experience. We look forward to building on this legacy and hosting the WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships at an even greater scale in 2026. This will be a truly exceptional event,” he said.
