Several buildings across the county will turn pink and blue at 7 pm to mark the night of remembrance
A ‘Wave of Light’ walk is taking place in Limerick city tonight in memory of babies gone too soon and to those affected by baby loss.
The walk will take place tonight Tuesday, October 15 at 6.30 pm at The Babyloss Memorial inside People’s Park (near the entrance on the corner of Upper Mallow street and Pery street).
The event is part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, which has run from October 9th to 15th, 2024. It will see participants walk Limerick city’s three bridges – stopping midway at Limerick Maternity Hospital for candle lighting and music before returning to the original meeting point of People’s Park.
The candles will be lit at 7 pm, joining the global wave of light for Baby Loss Awareness Week. Candles will be provided by Limerick Maternity Hospital but eventgoers can also bring their own if preferred.
As part of the global wave of light at 7 pm, Féileacáin the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support Group of Ireland is calling on buildings across Ireland to join the global wave of light.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month and each year on October 15 there is a global wave of Light across the World at 7 pm. Candles, monuments, landmarks, and buildings are lit in the campaign’s colours – pink and blue, in memory of babies gone too soon and those affected by their loss.
Organisers are hoping turning buildings and landmarks pink and blue will spark conversations about baby loss and support people affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death.
The buildings confirmed to be lighting up in support in Limerick this year are:
Askeaton Tourist Office
Bank of Ireland Newcastle West
11th Limerick Newcastle West Scouts
Limerick City Hall
University Maternity Hospital Limerick
