Local band Waterdogs take debut EP on the road

Limerick alt-rockers mark the release of their debut EP Midnight Loser with a string of headline shows.

Limerick four-piece Waterdogs, known for their grunge, ’90s inspired take on alternative rock released their debut EP today. Titled Midnight Loser, the EP has been released off the back of the group’s two debut singles ‘Victim (By Choice)’ and ‘Stone Driver’.

An eclectic mix of songs stylistically, the four track EP varies between riff heavy musicianship akin to the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and more laid back, hypnotically groove heavy moments.

The EP seeks to capture what Waterdogs’ live experience is like as well as what the band will be doing in the future according to their guitarist and lyricist Aaron Griffin: “We wanted to give a snapshot of the sound we’re going for. It was in this way of thinking we chose the tracks for Midnight Loser. The songs varied stylistically and that’s with intention. We wanted something that sounded like us, in all the ways that means”.

While the band showcases fantastic musicianship throughout the EP’s four tracks, the EP also touches on deeply personal themes lyrically according to Griffin: “Another important thing for us was to use songs we felt people could connect and relate to. That’s really as the heart of what we’re trying to do- to use our music to be open and vulnerable to hopefully let people know when they’re going through some hard times that they’re not alone.”

The band have also received significant press attention in their short time with the release of their first two singles, receiving radio play from the likes of Wired FM and Limerick’s Live 95, as well as making several appearances on Hot Press’ New Irish Songs to Hear this Week playlist.

To mark the release of the EP, Waterdogs are playing two headline shows in Limerick and in Cork.

Limerick’s Pharmacia will be the bands first stop tonight, December 1, with support from Annie Cheervers, The Luminesc and Misvanity.

The band will also be playing in Cork’s infamous rock venue Fred Zeppelin’s on December 2, with support from Wise Up and The Luminesc.
