Cannabis and cocaine have made up the main drugs seized.
Almost €1 million worth of cannabis was seized in Cavan and Dublin after a joint operation carried out by Revenues Custom Services, the Garda National Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Cavan Divisional Detective Unit.
Approximately €382,000 worth of herbal cannabis, amounting to 19.1kgs was found in Cavan on Monday 27 November 2023 as part of the intelligence-led joint operation.
A man in his 30s was arrested and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda Station in the Cavan area.
This was not the only raid in the last week. In West Dublin, a separate intelligence led operation that took place on 23 November 2023 saw the seizure of approximately 29.4kgs of herbal cannabis. The seizure boasts an estimated value of €589,200.
Thursday’s seizure in Dublin also saw the arrest of one man in his 40s. He was originally detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 and was held at Clondalkin Garda Station.
The man was charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act and appeared in front of the Criminal Courts of Justice on 25 November 2023.
In Galway, a man was arrested after Gardaí seized cocaine and cannabis in the Castlepark area on Sunday night. The cocaine is valued at approximately €56,000 and the cannabis approximately €1,800.
The man in his 30s is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996 in a Garda station in Galway.
This seizure follows the seizure of 244 cannabis plants in Cavan worth €195,200. Two men in their 20s were arrested.
In total the raids resulted in the seizure of approximately €1m worth of drugs.
In Limerick, a judge refused to jail a cannabis grower as it was for personal medicinal use.
The defendant, a man in his 60s was found with 13 plants, the value came to €12,000. The defendant stated that the cannabis was for self-medication to treat his depression. The Judge dropped the case in lieu of a medical report.
