Shannon Airport has been going from strength to strength recently, introducing flights to Toronto, Canada and Reus, Barcelona.
The Limerick adjacent airport is involved in an online competition to gain a new route to Cologne, Germany with Eurowings airline.
The public voting began last week and they’re competing with nine other airports from around the world. At time of print Shannon only has seven percent of the votes so far.
The addition of a new route means anyone fancying a holiday to Cologne would only have to drive 20 minutes to Shannon Airport, rather than the two hours to Dublin. The new 2018 route would also benefit Limerick students as there is an Erasmus university linked with the University of Limerick in Cologne! It’s also a great opportunity to attract more business and tourism to the Shannon region.
By voting for Shannon to be Eurowings newest flight route, you’re also in with the chance of winning return flights for two from Shannon-Cologne.
Known for its Gothic architecture and set on the beautiful River Rhine, Cologne is a great spot for scenic boat tours. A busy German city, there’s plenty to do whether you’re looking to attend an opera or orchestra, bike ride or just shop all day. If art is more your scene then Cologne has you sorted, the Museum Ludwig showcases 20th-century art, including many masterpieces by Picasso.
The Munster Rugby team have recently endorsed Shannon in the competition by contributing a promo video to their Facebook page.
Voting closes on Monday and you can vote as many times as you want. Click here to vote.
