Thursday, March 13, saw UL’s Student President elections achieve the highest turnout in six years
The University of Limerick has officially elected a new Student President with the highest voter turnout in six years. Outgoing Student President, Ronan Cahill reflected on his own journey and praised the newly elected Síofra Foley, who is set to take the presidency for the 2025/26 academic year.
“I have absolutely no doubt that the team that were just elected there are going to go on to absolutely great things for UL students,” Ronan expressed. “I don’t think she [Síofra] needs any advice – she has got it nailed down. What I think has been said to every president is that you need to go in there and make it your own.
“It’s just a testament to all the candidates, all the campaign teams, and to UL students getting out there, getting involved, and showing interest in the representative for next year,” Ronan stated.
Outgoing Student President Cahill further expressed the importance of the role itself. “It’s all about getting in there and being the president that you’re going to be.
“Finding your passions, leading UL students, leading student life forward, and again, fighting for students.”
Ronan Cahill complimented the candidates and labelled their campaign efforts “A massive credit” to those who stood for election.
The re-election of two officers, according to Cahill, emphasises the importance of continuity within Student Life. “To have two officers re-elected shows that students resonated with the importance of having continuity.”
From the Limerick Voice team, we wish Síofra Foley all the best with her presidency in the next academic year!
