As as part of the week-long campaign aimed at raising awareness to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Pery’s Hotel played host to the Limerick leg of COPD Support Ireland’s ‘Save Your Breath’ health check-in tour on Tuesday.
The event is just one of several COPD health screenings being made available across Ireland to coincide with World COPD Day on November 18.
The disease, a collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, is estimated to affect more than 380,000 people living in Ireland; while a further 170,000 people may not be aware they have it.
COPD is the fourth biggest cause of death in the country after lung cancer, heart disease and stroke with one person dying on average every five hours from the disease.
The nationwide events are free and are open to the public where a free spirometry or lung capacity test will be made available to test for the illness.
The ‘Save Your Breath’ campaign which runs from Monday, November 16 to Friday, November 20.
