UL student who died in Castletroy named as first-year Ronan Moran

Gardai have confirmed that a file is being prepared for the coroner after the body of 19-year-old Ronan Moran from Drumshanbo, County Leitrim was found in the Castletroy area of Limerick City yesterday morning.

Gardai initially attended the scene at 9.40am on Wednesday morning. The young man’s body was later removed to University Hospital Limerick Mortuary, where a post-mortem was due to take place.

In a statement released this afternoon, UL President Kerstin Mey said, “I am so deeply sad to inform you of the passing of a valued member of our University of Limerick community, Ronan Moran, First Year Bachelor of Education in Graphics, Engineering and Technology.

“We hold Ronan’s family in our thoughts especially his parents John and Geraldine and his brothers Kevin and Fergal. Our sympathies go out to all of Ronan’s classmates and lecturers, to his housemates, friends and fellow UL students and the many others who will be devastated by his loss.”
