Joe’s life has been changed through his injuries but swift action by the GAA community has changed his life once again
A fundraiser for a young Clare athlete has reached over €300k after he suffered serious injuries while training with his local GAA club in Corofin, Co. Clare.
Now, Joe Slattery who completed his Junior Cert this year sadly has life-changing injuries which will necessitate lifelong care.
A GoFundMe was set up to help Joe adapt to his changed life and currently has a target of €475K.
The public, in particular the GAA community in Clare, were quick to get behind the Slattery family, with €313K raised at the time of writing.
Joe has represented Clare in both hurling and football and Clare GAA were quick to appeal to followers online to get behind Joe and the Slattery family:
Taking to GoFundMe, Joe’s family said:
“We, Joe’s family, ask for your help in supporting Joe in adapting to his changed life. Anything you can contribute will make a difference in Joe’s future. In addition, you can help by sharing the page and keeping Joe in your thoughts.”
In an update posted on behalf of the family, Clive Slattery said: “We are blown away by the generosity of response. It’s humbling. So many have been able to donate and share on this link. Please do continue to share it.”
