’The Choice for Change’ outlines Sinn Féin’s vision for a fairer Ireland, with key reforms in taxation, housing, and childcare at the forefront of their election bid.
Sinn Féin Party Leader Mary Lou McDonald unveiled the party’s General Election manifesto, “The Choice for Change,” at Dublin’s Smock Alley Theatre yesterday, November 19. The manifesto outlines several key pledges aimed at addressing housing, healthcare, childcare, and taxation.
Some of the standout promises include:
- Abolishing the Universal Social Charge (USC) on earnings up to €45,000.
- Introducing €10 per day childcare costs.
- Ending means-testing for the Carer’s Allowance.
- Phasing out the student contribution fee within five years.
- Eliminating Property Tax.
- Implementing a three-year rent freeze.
These proposals follow months of policy launches focusing on critical issues such as housing affordability and public healthcare.
Outgoing Minister for Finance and Fianna Fáil TD Jack Chambers criticized the manifesto, stating, “Sinn Féin’s manifesto is a week late and even weaker on supporting our people and businesses with the challenges we face now and into the future.”
During Sunday night’s RTE Leaders’ Debate, Sinn Féin faced scrutiny over the delayed release of their manifesto, with rivals accusing the party of avoiding detailed examination of their plans.
