A student media awards event has announced that applications are now open for its 2022 awards.
‘The Smedias’ are the biggest and longest running student event in Ireland and this year marks the 22nd edition of the prestigious awards.
In 2021, despite the challenges faced by the global situation, the Smedias received over 1000 entries and hosted a virtual event, with groups of students, presenters, judges and sponsors all tuning in.
The Smedias stated that they are on track for an in-person event on April 28 at the Aviva Stadium.
The organisers stated:
“Fingers-crossed everything goes to plan and we get to see some faces away from the computer screen.
Student publications are a fantastic resource for students to discover new and exciting opportunities, and they are a great source to reach a wide range of students.
There are 40 different categories covering areas from print to photography, blogging, radio, film, animation and more.
• RSA Award for Journalism relating to Road Safety
• EPA Award for Journalism relating to The Environment
The following two categories have a €1000 prize fund.
• SFI Award for Journalism relating to Science and Technology
• European Commission Award for Journalism relating to European Issues
The following category has a €500 prize fund
• BLOC: Gearrfhíséan Dátheangach na Bliana
Applications open on March 1 and close on March 24. The organisers stated that “this really is the perfect opportunity for students to not only get to show off their amazing work to esteemed industry professionals and gain recognition for their hard work, it also looks great on their CV.”
