The National Student Media Awards (SMEDIA’s), Ireland‘s longest-running student awards event, are returning this year for the 25th year. They honour young and upcoming talent in the Irish media industry.

What are the SMEDIA’s?

The National Student Media Awards are a well-known awards ceremony celebrating the best of Irish students involved in multimedia. They were created to recognise and reward excellence across different categories, in journalism, digital media, broadcasting, film and more.
The awards attract notable media industry leaders and famous Irish personalities every year.

Some of last year’s categories have included Journalist of the Year, Sports Writer of the Year, Short Film of the Year, and Radio Tri Gaeilge.
Some of the students who won previously have gone on to work for major media outlets including RTÉ, Newstalk FM, 98FM, Spin1038, The Irish Examiner and Today FM.

Moreover, the SMEDIAs have had an array of impressive presenters and judges, such as Academy Award nominee Lenny Abramson, Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham, TV presenter and personality Laura Whitmore and Miss Universe winner Roz Purcell.
